COURSE DESCRIPTION

Locate a benchmark, set up a dumpy level, create a Temporary Bench Mark  and record readings which are reduced to absolute heights, based on the National Grid System.   Using a Diff GPS will remove the need for all this, but understand however, on many sites, this will not be available, and it does not require batteries. Learning to take levels helps in many ways, including having a fall-back device, as well as understanding datums and even allow you to create horizontal section line with ease.

CERTIFICATION

Successful completion of this course shows an understanding of the subject and allows a sign off at novice level on the Dumpy Level and Staff section in the Archaeology Skills Passport
